Yeah we just celebrated her first on thanksgiving! Thanks for asking and thanks for the kind thoughts. Hope all is well with you too. Hope you have a great Christmas. Damn I need to get a computer, I'm STILL without one. I owe you some music. NRBQ I believe and I don't remember what else. I haven't forgot!

Also - couldn't agree more about what you said about Rush in the hall of fame. It looks like a deliberate snub. What a bunch of BS. I assume if you're a fan you have that documentary DVD that came out last year? It's killer. I love how they focuse mainly on the good stuff.

I don't think it's a deliberate snub - I just don't think they have the industry support. IF someone was smart and understood what it would do to their back catalogue, they'd be in a flash. Which raises the question of who owns what re Rush - if it's mostly the band, then an uphill climb. If some label(s), which are now all consolidated into the hands of 3 major players that are but divisions of much larger corporate giants, got involved, things would change.

Did anyone think this was really about the fans?

I thought it had an elitist and/or insider music critic dweeb aspect to it. Laura Nero? Really? Who but a music freak would be pushing her? I don't see her catelog shaking much coin loose. I don't get where the lines should be drawn either. More like the popular music hall of fame not that I'm saying Rock is limited to hard rock not at all. Rush has always been hated by critics and women too of course ha. To me if their longevity and album sales aren't enough to get them in then their influence should be. Have you seen that documentary ( even my wife liked it and she's the typical female that doesn't like them at all outside of Tom Sawyer )? Excellent DVD.YOu have Pantera, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Les Claypool and more siting their influence. I think they should definitely be in. And Kiss too. Are Kiss good musicians? Hell no but their marketing reigned supreme in the 70's. Everyone knows their brand it's HUGE. Definitely hall of fame worthy if freaking three album GnR can be in.

It is - but it's also a ton of industry folks, like a pal of mine that is a big time music ent lawyer and another that runs the Warfield. Both are music geeks, but like many such geeks, got jobs in the biz.
Here's what the RNR HOF says:
http://rockhall.com/inductees/induction-process/

To be eligible for induction as an artist (as a performer, composer, or musician) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the artist must have released a record, in the generally accepted sense of that phrase, at least 25 years prior to the year of induction; and have demonstrated unquestionable musical excellence. [insert snide comments here]

We shall consider factors such as an artist's musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique, but musical excellence shall be the essential qualification of induction.

How does one get selected?
The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 500 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes - and more than 50 percent of the vote - are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

NOW, I'd like to find the list of folks that get votes. Don't see that it is publicly disclosable...
